Safety Precaution for Electric Chain Hoist

  • July 27, 2022
  • , 8:09 pm

Electric chain hoists from Kito India are backed by superior and proven technology that ensures a smooth and ergonomic operation, enhanced durability, and reliable safety. Our lifting equipment has unrivalled safety implementations, as evidenced by the following features:

  • The friction clutch protects the hoist against overloading.
  • An upper-lower limit switch prevents abnormal usage damage to the hoist or load chain.
  • The thermal protector protects against overheating.
  • Industry-leading electromagnetic brake with 10 years warranty.
  • An emergency stop disconnects the motor from power without shutting off the main power supply.

However, further safety precautions are advised in the interest of the operator’s and others’ safety in the hoist operating area. The following safety guidelines identify potentially dangerous situations that can result in death or severe injury if not avoided.

  • Electric chain hoists should not be used above their lifting capacity, specified in the nameplate. The rated load, or the lifting capacity, specified on the nameplate, should never be exceeded. In addition, the rating of the lifting motor (short-time and intermittent rating) should be taken into account.
  • Operators and other personnel should not ride on a lifted load. This could lead to severe physical injury to personnel and damage to the equipment.
  • Loads should not be raised in an inclined position because this may cause the load to swing. Before hoisting a load, electric chain hoists should be situated precisely above it.
  • After the load has been hoisted, the operator should not handle the chain hoist and move backwards. Operators should always position themselves behind the load and move forward while operating the chain hoist.
  • Operators should not use the electric chain hoist when underneath the load. At any time, no person should be present in the area beneath the hoisted load.
  • Frequent use of the upper and lower limit switch can cause partial abrasion or damage the limit switches. Upper and lower limit switches are provided only as an emergency option, and should not be used regularly.
  • Operators should not perform excessive inching operations. Habitual inching of the electric chain hoist may cause the service life of electric chain hoists to be drastically reduced.
  • Cutting or welding operations on the load should never be carried out while it is in a suspended position.
  • After lifting the load, it should never be left unattended for an extended period.
  • The load chain should not be wound around the load and used as a sling. It could lead to the failure of the hook.
  • Slinging the load at the bottom hook’s tip will cause the opening of the hook to widen and hence should be avoided.
  • Operators should not attempt to lift any structure, load, or other objects deemed difficult to lift.
  • Any obstacles on the travel rail should be removed to ensure smooth and safe load transportation.
  • Care should be taken to prevent the collision of the trolley with the beam stopper.
  • The push button cord should not be subjected to pulling forces to avoid breakage or damage.
  • If a load necessitates the use of two electric chain hoists, ensure that both hoists meet the W.L.L. (Working Load Limit) requirements.
